One of my early drone trips with the Phantom drones was to Logandale Trails, in the Moapa Valley North of Las Vegas. Shown below!Those early drones were light, easy to crash--and I was a new pilot, so I was pretty cautious. On a beautiful Summer day, I managed some good footage.
Three years later, I returned with my truck-like Inspire drones, on a weekend when the ATV drivers were out in good numbers.
Where I'm flying in these videos is over the only section of pavement for miles. The rest is all dirt roads.
When they start their racing on those dirt roads, the dust they kick up obscures the view, so most of this is taken while they are arriving and before large numbers of them roar out.
These sandstone formations are North of the Valley of Fire, and represent a continuation of the sandstone deposits in the park.
An hour’s drive North from Las Vegas lies the park named Logandale Trails. Built around a good-sized set of red sandstone formations, it is a favorite area for riding all-terrain vehicles.
A generous parking area and small cliff-top concrete pathway give visitors glorious viewings overlook. There are trails leading out across the desert hills on all sides. Large gatherings of ATV enthusiasts swarm the park on weekends, picnicking between exciting rides.
I was fortunate to arrive on a sunny, quiet weekday morning before any of the ATV riders had shown up. I stood on the overlook and launched the drone out over the red sandstone canyon. It was a wonderful hour of sun-drenched color and beautiful scenery., which you see below.
As I drove out of the park, the first ATV rider roared in, throwing up a huge cloud of fine dust behind his vehicle. It wouldn’t be long before a lot of dust was filling the clear air I had just enjoyed.
