10 Clear Lake

There are a series of ice lakes in the mountains above Silverton. They fill with snowmelt water as the Spring comes, and tint flakes of mica from the mountains float in the water, reflecting brilliant colors.

By October, the lake has drained of the mica chips and the color is gone—but the aspens are filled with color! You just can’t have everything!

I made of video of a still photo for number 1 because the clouds (as you see in number 2) were racing across the scene, fouling up the exposure!
